James Birchall graduated from Bath University (UK) in 1993 and completed his PhD researching drug and DNA delivery systems in 1998 (Cardiff University, UK). Current research is focused on microneedle drug and vaccine delivery to the skin and pulmonary drug delivery. Professor Birchall has acted as Associate Editor of Critical Reviews in Therapeutic Drug Carrier Systems, a temporary advisor to the WHO and an expert panel member to the British Pharmacopoeia, and has conducted research funded by the EU, DFID, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the US NIH, the Wellcome Trust, EPSRC, MRC, the Welsh Government, the Royal Society, Innovate UK and various charities and pharmaceutical companies.
