MGC is a major chemical products manufacturer operating across a wide range of industries. In the field of drug delivery, the company’s Advanced Business Development Division has developed OXYCAPT™ Vial & Syringe from a novel polymer, as an alternative to glass primary packaging.
Mitsubishi Gas Chemical (MGC) develops and manufactures chemical products ranging from basic chemicals to fine chemicals and performance materials. It comprises the Natural Gas Chemicals Company, the Speciality Chemicals Company, the Aromatic Chemicals Company and, of particular relevance to those interested in drug delivery, the Information & Advanced Materials Company and the Advanced Business Development Division.
MGC established its Advanced Business Development Division in 2012 as a centre for continually creating new businesses across the fields of medical/food, information and communications, mobility, energy and infrastructure. The group has developed OXYCAPT™ Vial & Syringe as an alternative to glass containers for parenteral primary packaging.
Also of potential interest for pharma / drug delivery applications is the company’s Oxygen Absorbers division within MGC’s Information & Advanced Materials Company. It produces the oxygen absorbing desiccant, PharmaKeep, which was specifically designed for use with pharmaceuticals, and the AGELESS range of oxygen absorbers,
MGC was founded in 1918 and was incorporated in 1951. It has more than 8000 staff working across multiple locations in Japan, with additional locations across Asia (Thailand, Singapore, China), Europe (Dusseldorf, Germany) and the US (New York, NY). The company is publicly owned and its shares are traded on the Tokyo Stock Exchange (Ticker Symbol: 4182). It is part of the Mitsubishi Group, shares the Mitsubishi brand and trademark, but is nonetheless an autonomous company and separate legal entity, as are many of the group companies.
